Some people only dream of leaving behind everything that is familiar to them in order to travel the world. Teresa actually did it! For the past five years, she has been leading a very unconventional life. This book is about her world travels and the international house-sitting business that helps to make these travels possible. It is also about making the choice to retire early and finding the courage to reinvent herself. She not only includes a lot of autobiographical material about her experiences in foreign locations, but also explains in detail how an ordinary person can lead such an adventurous life. Teresa has lived in Spain, Ireland, Prague, Malta, an island in the Dutch Antilles, multiple cities in Mexico, England and Italy. She even lived on a 57-foot boat in a marina in Baja California. Usually, she takes care of homes for up to ninety days. This book is a testament to an alternative lifestyle that supports a different way of looking at money, time, and travel. It incorporates sound advice that is based on first-hand experience. Teresa may very well be the poster girl for how to be adventurous at any age, on any income.

Finding the Gypsy in Me Tales of an International House Sitter Teresa Roberts 9780615557618 Books

Teresa Roberts' book, "Finding The Gypsy In Me," is like taking a journey out into the world abroad. I am so captivated with her carefully descriptive style of writing, that I feel as if she has taken me by the hand like Peter Pan and whisked me away into her own personal life adventure just this side of Never-Never Land.
From the beginning, I was awestruck by her brave decision to take the chance to dream outside the box and take off into the unknown, all for the purpose on enriching her life's experiences. Add to the act that she learned to construct her new purpose in the form of an International House sitter, only makes her story that much more amazing, as well as entertaining. Can everyone speak on how it feels to practically live in an English countryside? Can everyone explain the day to day lifestyle of a community village in Spain? What about international foods and shopping? Traditional means of travel and leisure? Customs and folklore of people from around the world? This book has it all, and it is told from a person who has lived it. Trust me, "amazing" is not word enough to describe the spirit of this wonderful woman, and her story will truly enlighten the quest for life and adventure for everyone who reads her book. I know, because she did it for me.

Finding the Gypsy in Me Tales of an International House Sitter Teresa Roberts 9780615557618 Books Reviews

Read this some time ago but forgot to review. From what I remember, I really enjoyed the alternative lifestyle portrayed in this book. The tips in it seemed useful but the best part was being able to live vicariously through the author. I'm not sure being an International Housesitter is something I'd ever do ... but then again, who knows where life may lead!
I was very surprised and pleased to find Teresa's book on housesitting.
It is a fascinating read, and has many very good tips for the prospective housesitter, as well some exciting journal entries.
Teresa has some valuable help for those who would like to enjoy her lifestyle. It is much easier to let go the trappings of suburban life than most people imagine. Teresa proves this.
I too have been housesitting around the world for more than ten years, absolutely loving what I do.
Every day, no matter where I am in the world, whether it is on a plane, in a coffee shop, waiting for a bus etc. I am asked about housesitting. I am more than happy to pass on all the help that I can.
Even though I am a veteran at the housesitting game, I gleaned some new help and ideas from Teresa's book, for which I am very thankful.
If you have a yen for the exciting life, then by reading 'Finding The Gypsy In Me', you will see just how easy it is, and you will also find many great things to help you be safe and a valuable housesitter for the home owners.
A useful book to read for those who have a yearning for a life well lived. The author and her husband sold up and released themselves from the more troublesome burdens of home ownership and it appeared to be mainly her took up international home sitting and found a far more interesting way of life. I can vouch personally for her advice having done the same thing and all the hints and stories she tells are authentic truths of house sitting. I certainly would recommend the book if you are planning to change your life and spend a lot of time looking after other folks pets and homes.
Loved the book. Teresa has shown us that you really can do what you've always wanted to do.
Like a lot of people, I expected to need a lot of money and freedom to do what Teresa has done.
She shows us that you can choose the freedom, and travel without a lot of cost, virtually anywhere you choose. This is also a metaphor of course on how to live life. We need to be reminded that we can do the things we want to do, whether it is travel like Teresa does, or something else that we have always dreamed of. There is a way. Want to learn how to paint like an artist? Want to learn how to play the piano or cello? Want to be a chef or a dancer? Teresa seems to have found the secret of how to decide what she wants, and then create a way to get it. Kudos for "Creative Teresa"!!!
Many of us have fantasized about traveling the world, but somehow life has a way of keeping us close to home. We raise our families and let our careers dictate our paths in life.

Teresa Roberts has dispelled the American Dream by making her fantasy come to life. After teaching for many years, and raising her family, she has found a way to travel the world and she didn't have to win the lottery to do it. Instead she became an International House Sitter.

If ever there was a class on becoming an International House Sitter, FINDING THE GYPSY IN ME would be the required reading. Ms. Roberts has shown us in delightful detail all that she needed to do to reach her goal...and she took us with her! She has incorporated wonderful, exciting stories of the beautiful homes she was in charge of while the owners vacationed, as well as the many interesting new friends she met along the way. The ethnic foods, the shopping and sight-seeing will have you taking notes on just how you, too, can live this glamorous life.

FINDING THE GYPSY IN ME is an experience that will leave you dreaming of a life that can set you free to follow your dreams and fantasies of traveling the world.

Great job Teresa Roberts! The fire in my dreams has been lit once again!

Review by Barbara Grovner AKA B. Grovner, author of EVEN NUMBERS, COLD CRAZY, AND COLD SERIAL.
This book changed my life. I thought I would be working until the day I died and believe me it was not something I was looking forward to.
When I read this book I realized my husband and I could go live some place else once we turned 62 (which is quickly approaching) and could do it on our social security while having our 401K's as back up money.
In 2012 we went to Merida, Yucatan, Mexico for the first time. This is where we decided we want to retire. We have gone every year since and have only a couple more years to make it our dream home. We have also made friends there.
Thank you Teresa! I have always been a gypsy at heart and now I can make a dream come true since I've always loved Mexico.
